Orbs of Collective Power

Post by rainrd »

What collective power or powers have the greatest influence over your everyday life as control over your flows of energy? Also, what personal individual has the greatest power likewise with your everyday life? Collectives can include commercial business, the state (as nations, provinces, city-states), family, church (as organized religion such as Catholic, Muslim Caliph), spiritual groups or realms, labor unions, local community groups, and charities.

If the power you notice as a personal power is also a collective power, that person is probably a leader of a formal or informal institution as a collective. Collectives all have something in common important to their strength as an insitution... strength in numbers. The more people that are in support of the institution, the more influence that institution will have.

The power of an institution doesn't grow as most might expect. An institution of two isn't two times stronger than an institution of one person, it is more than two times stronger. Let's say two equally skilled individuals both build their own house separately. This will be an extreme challenge that takes a long time. However, if instead of building their house on their own, they take turns helping each other build their house, it will be more than twice as fast for both houses to be built.

Society doesn't consist of one and only one institution, but many. Society can be built very tall with many institutions being combined into one institution. Society can be built very wide, with many institutions offering many independent foundations for life. The taller institutions are built on top of each other, the more risk there is that they can lose balance and topple. Corruption of one of the institutions can lead to corruption of the others, as a danger of a toppling tower. So, a stable society is expected to have many strong collective powers that cooperate sufficiently. Perhaps if one institution comes out as quite dominant in your life as having control over it, there are weaker others that warrant more attention.

Are you satisfied with the balance of institutional powers in your life? Which power would you choose to grow and which would you choose to shrink, if any?
